Ian W. Cottrell, PhD, is an experienced executive with extensive business and technology expertise in specialty chemicals and animal health consumer products. Ian began his career as a guar chemist at Stein, Hall and Co. From there, he spent 13 years as Director, Research & Development, at the Kelco Division of Merck & Co, Inc. After Kelco, Ian worked with a number of global companies to help expand their offerings in polymer-based products; his last full-time corporate position was as Vice President, Chemical Product Development, at the Hartz Mountain Corporation, where he oversaw the development of pet specialty products. As Principal, Cottrell & Cottrell Consulting, Ian provides his expertise to numerous clients advising on challenges with product formulations and innovative solutions to new industry challenges.

Ian received his doctoral degree in organic chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and is the inventor on 45 patents and patent applications and has authored over 25 publications.
